My resting heart rate is in the 50s. Just because I'm a skinny guy doesn't mean I have to be an out of shape skinny guy. Big muscles do not necessarily equal health.

not asking if you're fit. but you obviously don't lift regularly (consistently) significant weights so i find it interesting you'd give advice about it

I'm going for big muscles, not to be incredibly fit though that will follow with my training. Do you even read threads?

Can I have your autograph? I`ve read all your stuff, and while your first couple of works weren`t all that great, I am a really big fan of your latest publications.

Well, my resting heart rate is 53. I bike 6-7 miles every morning at 6 am. Minutes after I stop, my rate goes to 80-83. I average 15-20 miles per hour. Do I need to ride longer or harder. Seems like I'm not getting a tough enough workout. I weigh 183 and am 5-8.

My heart rate isn't even on the chart
Well, I guess the 82+ number would be since it's + of that

I don't know, my whole family is really big on exercising.

Obviously "eat vegetables erry day" was a joke, but over the years learning the importance of constancy and regularity has been a very valuable lesson for me- exercising every day is more important than just the number of hours you exercise in a week.

Some examples:
If you normally work out for a half hour a day (and there's definitely nothing wrong with that) and you have one 2 hours workout, the extra hour and a half is meaningless. The extra time becomes meaningful when you've worked up to two hours a day.

Working out a half hour 4 days a week is much more effective than an hour twice a week.

OP mentioned that he lifted "on and off for a few months at a time when he was bored" or something like that. If you work out hard for a two months and then stop for another month, you lose a lot of your progress. Your body has to adjust to your physical activity over the course of a much longer period of time in order for the effects to become more permanent.

Whatever, regardless of whether you're lifting, or training for a marathon, that's what I think is one of the most important things to understand.
