People don't feel like downloading every fucking thing.
Standards, are you fucking stupid?
What do standards have to do with the quality of the streams you're gonna watch/listen. Are you saying that everyone is watching high res movies?
It's personal preference mostly and it all depends on the quality of your connection.

HD streams are inferior to 1080p quality videos
also not everyone has the bandwidth to stream in 1080p (which there is VERY little 1080p streams), but they can download 1080p videos in parts
also 4k is the future and you're not ready for it if you stream
