Windows 8 is still in 'alpha' (developer preview). But will probably be hitting an open beta soon or full RTM. Depends on which route they plan to take this time around with Windows. Given how well Windows 7 was with the open beta, I'd bet they will do that again this time around.

Current predicted release dates are aiming towards early/mid 2012 so you still have a bit of time to wait before it is going to be out.
