You and your benchmarks...

Also, is SLI the same thing as crossfire?

Edit: Turns out it's a GeForce GTX 580M and 570M

Benches can provide quick references to the capabilities of hardware, and for comparison between different ones. I mean, it may not fully reflect RL situations, but it does give people a pretty good idea of its performance.

SLI is the Nvidia version of multi-card configurations, basically the same as CrossfireX. And I thought you had to have the same chips for them to pair up...? Those are two different GPUs as far as I know.

I think you do need to have the same chips, but NVIDIA is releasing two seperate, new chips. Not sure though, but this is where I got the link from:

Two different chips, different shader count. Unless Nvidia changed something in their SLI technology, I call that a bluff. The chips have to be identical to be able to pair up.

Quick question:

If I decide to build a computer, would I need some sort of adapter for wireless internet? I was looking at some articles and it said that desktops don't support wireless internet connections (as opposed to laptops).

Yes, wired connections are always better for gaming. My wireless connection has never failed me though, and it's always been able to keep up with the games I currently play.

Regarding the Ethernet cable, how would I do that?

I assume your computer will be quite a distance away from your wireless router? You could get a wireless adapter for your machine in this case, or invest in powerline networking, which uses your standard household electrical cabling for networking. The simplest method though is still running ethernet cables through your house, either uncovered or in the walls (improbable DIY work).

Powerline (select dual kits for ethernet, single for wireless): http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=294&name=Powerline-Networking

Wireless adapters: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010074%20600014297&IsNodeId=1&name=PCI%20Express

And for some interesting titbits, it's much cheaper to buy a wireless card for a laptop AND a mini PCI-E to PCI-E adapter, than it is to get a quality wireless adapter. The Intel 6000 series cards are top of the line compared to others as well, having higher reception range and speeds.

My floor: Carpet
Floor with the Router: Bamboo
Hallway: Travertine stone

It's around 200 feet away, but if I move it to one of the empty rooms, I can make it around 30. That one's floor is carpet.

How would powerline networking for wireless work? Sounds interesting, even though I may just get a wired connection.
