Don't overwork the same muscle, everyday should be a different muscle group.

Yeah, and going along the same topic as working a muscle too much, is you need muscle confusion, or you will suffer from the Plateau Effect. You can do muscle confusion by working your muscles in different ways, through stages.

I'm on a really tight college schedule. I'd like to squeeze some gym in. If possible once a week. :C not sure if it's productive though.

It's the regularity of your workouts that builds your strength, stamina and fitness. No individual workout means anything, but the accumulation of workouts is what makes the difference. You could work out for 2 hours once a week, but the fact that you didn't do anything for the 6 previous days makes the workout useless. Instead, work out for 30-40 minutes every single day, and build in intensity as you go.
