I find typed commands are still useful for some tasks, eg. killing a process. Instead of opening some type of GUI task manager, finding the process, clicking it and ending it:

Win: taskkill /IM "process name"
Linux: killall "process name"

I find it much quicker on linux with gnome to just alt+f2 then type that command than having to find it in the damned GUI process monitor

When you type in the start menu, there is a little link at the top that says "Show more"

You'd be guessing wrong, and I don't see how anyone's mileage would vary.
