I lol'd. I'm sure that you use kernal mode debugger on a regular basis. I'm sure.

He doesn't mean a ring0 debugger but the kernelmode debugging options in CE, the "undetected debugger" which is really a powerful feature of Cheat Engine because nothing is able to detect it. And yeah it is not working under 64-bit OS. (I also use it every day because it is the default debugger setting for me.)

And there aren't many professional 64-bit debuggers so far which means that 32-bit OS is a far easier choice for game hacking.

Yes, you can install windows XP on it. You might have to do some looking around for drivers that match the chipsets you need but they are out there

as for the game saying : "You need 4 GB of ram" : If the game supports 32-bit that requirement is completely bogus, as NO 32-bit program can access 4GB ram, at most 2GB with luck, bust usually due to fragmentation only 1.5 to 1.8GB ram, and that leaves 1.5+GB of ram for other stuff like system processes etc...

as for using cheat engine, you should not get into ram problems, unless you do a pointerscan. If you're just doing an unknown initial value and other scan methods, just wait a minute or 2 before returning to the game (or when in the game wait a few minutes before you move the mouse)
The game will not crash, but will just be slow while windows is moving memory back and forth between ram and harddisk (because ce's memory is not actively used when you're inside the game, ce's memory will be picked by windows , leaving ram for the game)

I would bank the game uses 1.5 - 2gb and it says to have 4gb or w/e to make sure the pc doesnt get sucked down by its ram usage. Many games say it needs 1gb ram and then it only uses 500mb.

RAM is a very annoying subject, believe it or not but some games make use of over 4GB's of RAM nowadays however 2GB's is ok for most games at the moment do note that you WILL need at least 4GB''s in the near future if you want to play games.

4GB's is pretty much needed especially if you have a quad and do alot of thing's at once, Nothing wrong with having 2GB's worth though if your using the internet and games before 2009..

Crysis

err, not even close.

GTA 4 is large address aware and will happily gobble absolutely absurd amounts of memory though. it would push my 4gb machine to the point of serious paging and make shit crawl.

also as a fun fact, DX10 titles generally use less memory as well since the API no longer keeps a copy of resources in system memory as well as video memory.

What resolution do you play at...?

going at highspeeds in a car with all graphics on high, 1366x768x32bpp 60Hz

GTA IV with 1920x1080 High and Med on setting's uses 2.4GB's of ram for me on my quad it pretty much uses as much ram as it can, I was also streaming music and had a browser open so I used about 3.1-3.5GB's worth off ram on just that stuff, nothing major.

There have been a lot of games recently that use over 2GB's worth of RAM and some use 4GB's or more. I cannot comment on Crysis but I have heard that uses as much as you can throw at it andif you have a quad and 64bit windows expect to use alot more than 2GB's in most new games.

Games that utilise having 4GB's+ worth of ram:

GTA IV (mentioned)
Crysis1 & warhead & 2 (duh. That beast made me use 3GB's RAM on it's own at full res.)
Far cry 1 & 2
BF2 & 3
Supreme commander 1 & 2
RUSE
Most RTS games

There are alot of developers brining game to 64bit now believe it or not.

Do not get me started on why else 4GB's is recommended, such as software.

1440*900 on my old monitor which is now very much dead. ballad of gay tony would nom on probably close to 3+gb and would make alt tabbing a sluggish nightmare. APB was also insane in its memory usage.

not sure many other games are actually large address aware / 64 bit. i've had WoW crash before though from actually running out of memory but that was long ago.
