While that is a true statement, genetic programming can be used in situations where people may not have the best understanding on how to take on a problem. TSP is one of those situations where we don't understand how to best go about the problem, there are solution solvers but those only work for specific cases (symmetric etc).

Until you see what genetics can do for problem solving, you're not likely to find the idea appealing.

There's a great example of what GA's can do in this book im reading (too bad i can't paste the image). The problem was to enhance the strength of basically a radio tower. Logic tells us that the strongest structure will be straight and consist of triangles and squares that form a straight tower. A GA approach was used and improved the stability by over 50,000% No logic would have found the optimal design, but once the design was found physics proved the logic behind it

I am also trying to solve a similar problem and would love to see what people have made (just using a* is lame) other than iteration through every possible combo
