I have an ATI Radeon HD 4870 and I'm verrry pleased with it. Our old PC had an NVIDEA card in it, it sucked balls though, but is was kind of old too.

I'd go with the ATI just because it has a better reputation imo.
(Lol +rep ati cards.)

Geforce GTX480 is 10% faster than the 5870, but costs more.

Thats the 5970 however which is dual GPU and cannot be compared with the GTX480 because its a single GPU. The 5970 is like 800 bucks and uses like 800w
