The i7 is only 4 cores, 2 threads to each core so it reads as 8 cores. |
I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. | You have one core. However, it is slightly better than a normal single core processor, but not as good as a dual core processor. _________________

You're in your room and your mom wants you to clean up the mess.
Since your by yourself, the job will take some time to get it done.
You then created a virtual copy of yourself and now the amount of time it takes to finish is reduced.
Same with your CPU.
Your CPU only has 1 core, you tell it to rip a CD to the computer.
With one core on its own, it takes time, therefore with HT (creates a virtual copy of itself), both working together and the job get done quicker. _________________

So if it virtually creates another copy of itself, is there a way to create more than one? _________________

No and some CPUs won't have this type of feature. _________________

I played it with and without Aero on. Both lagged at the same rates.

Yeah, that. Is that good? |
Let me put it this way. My brother had one of those 11 years ago when he still lived at home. |
I got it for free. It's way better than my previous one. It had a 32mb Graphics card, 265mb RAM, 2ghz and a 40gb HDD whilst my current one has a 265mb Graphics card, 1gb of RAM (3gig soon), 2 Processors of 3ghz each and a 140gb HDD. So I'm happy. | It doesn't have 2 processors, instead it has 1 quite crappy processor. |
Attachment. Care to explain? |
Sure. You were tricked by Intel's marketing into thinking Hyperthreading was actually a multi-core arrangement, rather than a marketing ploy.
You have a shitty processor with one core trying to pretend it's two. |
