Windows XP is obsolete you morons, Microsoft is slowly dropping support for it. It still asks for a floppy drive when you want to add drivers. Go with Windows 7 because of the general improvement in a lot of areas.

Not necessarily true. On a bad system, XP > Win7 > Vista. On a good system, Win7 > Vista > XP. Yes, Vista is faster than XP on a good computer.

Well if Windows XP is good on a slow system shouldn't it be better on a faster system?

Not necessarily. The newer Windows operating systems are able to make use of current hardware. For example, Superfetch. And Aero's acceleration.

I would choose XP for lower-brand hardware, Vista for mid-end.

Anyways, I would prefer Windows 7 over Vista for mid-end as well. Security improvements and extended support is one reason - added functionality is another.

It'll be faster on a high end system than on a low end system, but not faster than Vista or 7. Vista and 7 are just better at utilizing modern hardware. Think about it this way, WinXP wasn't made for a core i7.
