Hmmm, this way seems easier.
It comes pre installed with W7, all the parts are put together perfectly, and the shipping is free.
Versus ordering the parts and having them shipped then assembling it wrong because you're a dumbass.
And yes, I'm completely sure I'd get it wrong.

But yeah, 40% off on black friday, that's a good point.
Hey, hey, hey...

Thats actually a decent price.

Yeah, but it is because there is not much need for a computer of these specifications. I mean, you can't use it for modern gaming, which completely gets rid of the purpose for the AMD Phenom X4. There isn't much else to use that kind of a processor and 8GB of RAM for anything else. That is why it is so cheap. There is hardly a market that this will sell to.

@Cryoma, can you built a barebone kit?

barebone: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5226067&CatId=31
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4360083&CatId=31
then just buy a graphic card that fits your range (4850,9600gso,4670,4730)

Look it's the same thing for $50 less at best buy if I buy a $200 monitor also, which I'm cool with.
And I don't plan on playing games, really, though I don't see how that build couldn't play games anyway.
Basically I'd be doing a lot of digital production, and rendering a shitload of stuff, which would flex the power of that processor easily.
As it is I can barely render tiny flash file without my computer crashing, let alone browse the web to pass time while I'm doing it.

And I probably could manage to build something from a kit, but I just know that something wouldn't be in there right or it wouldn't be put together as well as a tech crew can.
Also, if I mess up, there's no warranty.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4360083&CatId=31
just plug a hard drive, burner from your old pc.
also you can save 5% off using bing cashback.\

If I were you, I would just do the build I put together minus the gfx card, as it comes with a decent integrated one anyway. That'll be under $500. And Cryoma, it isn't nearly as hard as you think it is to put a computer together. You could look up a guide to putting it together on youtube or some shit and that would tell you enough of what to do.

i5 runs over the competition, even without HT. Better monitor too.

IBP is a gaming computer, totally not what I need.
And I'm pretty sure the Phenom is better than even the i7.

i5 750 > Phenom II 965BE, AMD's flagship model.

Dedicated GPU > integrated GPU. Performance gets better, not worse. And a gaming computer would probably perform better than a lower-end mainstream system. Anyways, with the specific model I chose, it's only an HD 4350, not even close to a full-on gaming card.

@Del C:
Apparently, he's not into the idea of assembling a system.

Well you're wrong, it isn't. Of quad-core processors, i7 > Phenom > i5 > Athlon

Ok well at least I was right about it being better than the i5.
I just assumed since the Phenom is newer and all that it's better than i7.
But like I said, I'm not going to be playing heavy games like Bioshock 2 or Fo3, I just want an industry power studio.

Odd how you can shock pc components (i.e. mobos) by assembling on the carpet wearing socks (static electricity) even while the pc has no power. Rolling Eyes

Read my previous post. Even at a measly 2.66GHz, it outdoes the Phenom II clocked in at 3.4GHz in most cases. The i5 design is also newer than the Phenom II architecture, although its performance you want to compare, not how new a design is (as is the case with the GeForce FX 5-series).

FO3 runs smoothly on my integrated HD3300, not heavy game. But on the subject of comparing the i7 and the Phenom, just look at prices.
