The velocities will add, but will drastically slow down.

I am guessing it will be at the same speed.

The train, and everything on the train (including your gun and the bullet) is moving at 2000 km/h.

Before the bullet is even fired, it is going 2000km/h. After it is fired, I think it would go 4000km/h.

siiiiiiiigh. This also has got to do with Einstein's theory of relativity. The bullet will move away from the person on the train twice as fast as it would when the train wouldn't have any velocity at all.

For an outstander, that's just taking a look at the whole situation, it would look like a train passing by with a speed 2000km/h and a dude on it that fires a bullet that goes the exact opposite way with a velocity of 2000km/h.

It's similar to a situation most of us have been in, on a train station for instance. While you're standing on the station platform, the train starts to move, and you think you're the one that starts moving instead of the train. It's all relative: it could be the earth moving away under the train - or the train that moves away over the earth. It depends on how you look at it Wink.

My guess would be that the bullet would go the way you shot it since the wind at 2,000 km/h cannot stop a bullet from going. That is however if you were able to survive the wind speed that would rip your skin off your muscles and the force of a bullet that goes 2,000 km/h from a pistol standing on a train, improperly holding the weapon which the recoil would knock you off the train thus hitting your body all over the ground. Also, since the train is traveling at 2,000 km/h inertia states that so are you. So as you leave the train you will hit the ground with 2,000 km/h force most certainly killing you. Good luck with that.

I say the bullet stays at it's maximum velocity of 2000km/h.
The bullet doesn't magically go twice as fast because you're moving.
It would move 4000km/h AWAY from you because you are moving 2000km/h in the opposite direction. But the bullet itself would only be going 2000km/h.

@The Bullet Trick: Nothing would actually happen...

The bullet would start to loose its force of going straight then start to turn...

@Jump Off The Truck Trick: You wouldn't fall off because the air is going over the top of the truck and your stuck in your own space of force to stay on the truck...

I suppose there is a reason why the SR-71 never had any weapons mounted on it. As the speed of sound is Mach 1, the SR-71 has been recorded at Mach 3.2.

The bullet would just go forward like a normal bullet, if you were facing the other way, the bullet probably wouldn't come out of the gun but would eventually slow down.
