Btw, most games aren't bottlenecked by the CPU. Only RTS games will require a lot of processing power, so a better CPU will not give you better frame rates in FPS games.

It's never bad to have more performance, especially for the same price.

Multi-threading is still almost non-existent in the software world, and 2 fast cores is better than four slow ones. Two cores overloaded and two unutilized cores isn't exactly an ideal configuration. By the time multi-threading finally catches on current quads will be far obsolete. It was the same situation with 64-bit on the A64.

Multi-threaded apps are everywhere, but since most of use just use it for games we assume multi-thread apps are almost non-existent.
True that a faster dual core will beat a slower quad core, but when it comes to editing pictures, videos in HD, or do other professional work e.g. 3Ds Max, Photoshop, doing intense calculations in excel, a quad core will be beneficial over a dual core.
