| Windows XP is supposed to be 700MB... Look on any torrent site and the XP torrents with thousands of seeds are all around 700MB (CD size). XP was released in 2001, when very few computers had a DVD drive. |

Probably a "pre-nLited" version... i would avoid these, since they have been tampered with by someone you don't know.
Look for an untouched corporate edition. |

Corporate editions are versions that does not require activation, much like Vista Enterprise.
@OP before you go install XP, create a set of recovery disc for your original OS just incase if XP did not go well.
New laptops these days with Vista installed removes the special keys that lets you access the recovery partition. So for Dell instead of pressing ctrl+F11 to access the recovery partition, you now press F8 where it will give you a option that says "repair computer". This option however will not be available once you wipe out the factory installed Vista.
And installing your own stand-alone Vista will not bring that option back either.
This is not only Dell, all new laptops are doing these types of methods.
Also be for warned that functions that works in Vista may not work properly in XP. |

I dont have factory installed vista, i bought vista when my computer fucked up and the vista was cheaper then xp.
I reformated a number of times before but the only problem i had was finding proper sound drivers. I got a new soundcard now so thats not a problem anymore. |

Hard drives don't need a driver if that's what you were getting at in the previous post.
What you're describing is a lack of a SATA/RAID driver for the motherboard, and they're easy to find for any OS.
Any machine that has Vista should also have XP drivers, even if you have to go as far as digging up the model of each component and digging it up from the manufacturer's website, it is still possible. |
