You really only need 1GB, MapleStory doesn't use a lot of RAM, nor does Opera. 1GB is the sweet spot for most users on XP. Heavy gamers (World In Conflict, Crysis, Stalker) and video and photo enthusiasts are the only ones who really need more than 1GB on Windows XP.

As for graphics cards, you can use PriceWatch or search the sites themselves. You can probably get an 8600GT or an HD3650 at the least, and at the most, an 8800GT or HD3850.

Yeah seriously, 1 gig of RAM is the best for XP. I mean it don't even use that much. Look at the slot needed for video cards such as PCI or PCI express. Look to see if the motherboard has that slot.

I'll go with just a 1gig stick, but why do I need to look at the motherboard? I used a software to see how many memory slots my computer has, and it said 2, and both are full. I'm going to remove 1 of the 256 sticks and put in a 1gig stick. I'm still confused on buying a new graphics card, though.

You've got everything right about the RAM so far. There might be some incompatibility between the different RAM sticks, but that can be easily solved without a huge loss.

What are you confused about buying a graphics card?
There are 3 main interfaces for graphics cards. PCI, AGP, and PCI Express. In order to find out if your video card (video card = graphics card) is compatible with your computer, check the motherboard specifications on what type of interface it uses, and find out if your current power supply can handle the graphics card.

I was talking about a slot for the video cards. You need to look at what type of slot you have. AGP, PCI, or PCI-E. The style of slot will determine what type of graphics card you need. And if you are going to do that for the RAM, I suggest just taking out the 256 as well and buying 2 dual channel 512 sticks.

What is dual channel?

General Information :
Manufacturer : Nvidia Corp (ASUSTeK Computer Inc)
Model : NVIDIA GeForce4 MX Integrated GPU
Bus Type : AGP
Texture Memory : 122 MB

GPU Information :
Number of GPU : 1
Codename : NV1F
Revision : A5
Bus : 64-bit
Memory Type : SDRAM
GPU Frequency : 199 MHz
Memory Frequency GPU : 334 MHz (used PC wizard 2008)
My video card is AGP o_o

Also, about my ram, it is DDR-SDRAM, does the SDRAM part matter?

Your video card slot is AGP. That means you can only buy a video card fitted for AGP. Those are extremely cheap. Dual Channeling basically means that the ram sticks will work better with each other's help. The "ddr-sdram" just tells you what type of RAM you need.

I don't consider AGP cards cheap (some are though), but the higher-end ones have bad price/performance going against their PCI-e counter parts.

Dual channeling is 2 RAM sticks in each channel (if there were 4 DIMMs, then DIMM 1 and 3, or DIMM 2 and 4 would be filled). It's a free performance boost.

DDR-SDRAM is stands for Double Data Rate - Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory. It just means the type of RAM your computer uses (DDR).

So would dual channeling 2 512 sticks be better than a 1gb stick and 256 stick?

o_O I don't understand.
Do you have to do something special to dual channel or do you just have to buy 2 sticks of the same MB?
