well at the moment I am starting with VB and building from their. If you have the option perhaps take a programming class at your highschool/college( when u get there or if you go back) to give you some practical application (not that maple isnt practical Twisted Evil )

Well what I mean by industry is.. Are you planning to use this as a carreer chocie?

If so, I think you should do either C# or VB.Net (I'd advise C#)--they have more jobs than most languages, and are quite easy to pick up.

Otherwise, I think that you would probably either be best of with MASM (Microsoft Assembler) or C++.

Tell me samuri25404, does your hardware have drivers made in C# or VB.Net? Are any programs that require any speed at all for that matter made in C# or VB.Net?

For the slow, the answer is no.

Besides, when was the last time you saw any serious commercial application made in VB.Net?

Lets not forget that Windows/MacOS/Unix, etc; are all made in C and ASM, thats millions of lines of code an quite a few different coders!

Whether you like it or not, C/C++ and ASM are both still widely used.

I started out learning C/C++ and to me it does not seem too difficult to get the basics.

Flyte is right, MOST applications, to don't says alls.. are made on C++ and of course ASM, and also Delphi in some case.

What i get that Flytes wants to focus is.. that "why learn a language that will never be useful for a serious application, when at the end, you will end learning it (C++/ASM) anyways?". If i understand as he wants to focus it. Then i would says, he is right, just that people wants to do something quickly, easy and "cute" faster at this times. And VB is the choose.

Write a bloody app with a for 1 to 10000 loop and use queryperformancecounter to see how long it takes in both C++ and C#

It's not like a world of difference...
I wrote a DX9 engine in C# for my map editor project and it's just as fast or faster than most C/C++ engines.

You can do trainers in any language that gives you access to the memory in one way or another...
