As always, you're the dumbass. The CPU has no effect on what RAM is used, only the motherboard.

If the computer physically starts, that means the RAM is of the correct type. The fact that it throws errors means it's likely bad memory, or the motherboard didn't detect the proper speed and is running the ram out of spec, causing instability, which is highly unlikely in a modern machine.

| That's not likely the problem, I'm gonna have to agree with slovach that it's bad RAM. If the board doesn't support the amount of RAM you're putting into it, that means the amount it will physically address, it either won't recognize it all or the more likely case, it won't start at all. Instability in this case is caused by bad RAM, I can pretty much guarantee that.

Well, your correct in what you say.
But if he takes the ram like i said and puts 1 Gig in and a 512 and it boots.
Then he needs to then take the good 1 gig ram out and stick the other one in and see if it boots again. I bet 1 of the ram sticks are bad, or he had one of them not in all the way or something. But if they both boot with a single 512 with it, then the board wont take both 1gig sticks.
The machine will boot if you put too much ram in, It will just use the max amount the board is allowed.
I have not ever seen one not boot by putting too much, it just doesnt use it all like you just said.

I know it is that they gave you the wrong type or two different types whichever it is somethings wrong and it will not boot windows because of that
Labyrnth has this down I just want people to know about crucial more so.
Also loose ram sticks like he says causes issues I had that problem the other night
I did a ram upgrade for some guy but his case had a space issue so it was a tight fit to get my fingers in to push the ram stick in
I ended up leaving it somewhat look after I put in the other two sticks of ram and it wouldn't boot.
(He had 3 gigs 2 512's and 2 1 gig sticks)
I moved the 512's together
