I should just preface this post with the following:

-Yes, I know this is the forum for CE
-Yes, I know this is not LinGon's site
-Yes, I know I should contact him, instead (which I have)

Razz

Sorry for the semantics. I'll try to keep this short.

I'm playing Saint's Row the Third Full Package edition. Although it doesn't really say which version it is, it appears to be "v30-05-12". Been using LinGon's "full", +22 DX11 trainer for a month or so, no problems whatsoever except for one hiccup. Started dozens of times without issue.

I stopped playing for about a month to catch up on other games. After trying to start it up again, the trainer would not work anymore. I just can't seen to activate it with the HOME key. Neither the standard key or the numpad one with numlock on or off would work.

The game itself hasn't been updated at all, and I don't see how it can, since it can't access the internet. I've re-installed both the game and the trainer and still nothing. Here's where it gets weird: The "lite" +10 DX9 version works OK, I can activate it and turn options on and off. But, the DX9 +22 version doesn't work, which kinda destroys my only theory.

Somewhere in that month of not playing, something changed in my PC and I'm trying to figure out what. I looked at what I installed between now and then, looking at services, process, etc. but it's a little difficult. As it stands now, none of the other LinGon trainers I've tested for other games work, but other trainers for those same games and versions DO work. They've always worked before (albeit, different games), so I'm not sure what's going on.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Anyone know what could have caused it? This has only happened to me once before- it was a wile back, using a pizzadox trainer... I don't remember the name of the game, but I was proceeding nicely until the game crashed. After restarting, it no longer worked. Not after a re-install, not after restarting windows, nothing. It was very odd. I think the same thing might be happening here, but I'm lost. The only thing I can think of is MAYBE it's my AV. But, I don't get program updates- only definitions. The trainers are added to the exclusion list, and I've even tried disabling it completely.

Definitely try disabling your anti-virus. A lot of them block memory edits, opening foreign handles, etc. which could prevent the trainer from working entirely.

My guess would also be the AV. Lingon uses packers for encryption that often report a false positive with AV programs. If you've tried completely disabling your AV program, and it still isn't working, maybe windows defender or the like is blocking it.

If disabling these protections does not fix the problem, you could try renaming the trainer.exe to see if you are prompted by any protection monitors.

Other than that, my only thought would be to re-download the trainer in the event that one of the trainer files were corrupted or removed etc. If that doesn't work, do a CRC of the game.exe and/or replace the game.exe altogether with its original file if you have it. Not likely to be the case, but if the trainer.exe/game.exe files have been changed on their own, you might have a hard drive issue etc.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

In the back of my head I thought, maybe, there's a tiny chance that it could be my AV, even though the files are on the exclusion list and I can disable protection. So, I uninstalled it, rebooted and... nothing. Same result. I tried renaming, but no dice. It's not just for SR3, though. It's others that I've tested. Other non-LinGon trainers for those same games/versions work fine.

I need to figure out why, for some strange reason, the same trainer and same game, with no modification to either (I have the originals and re-coped them over), would mysteriously stop working, as well as all others by this author but, for another strange reason, the DX9 +10 works fine Sad I even tried changing the clock >.>

I also do realize the strangeness of his trainers documented on various messsage boards, but they're very good so I put up with it. It's not like I actually know what's going on, anyway.

Do you think, maybe, a VC++ or DX update did something?

It depends on how the trainer was made. Try downgrading DirectX to test.

Before doing that, you could try running the trainer as admin and running the game in different compatibility modes (like XP SP2).

Running as admin and compatibility modes didn't do anything for me. The closest I could get to reinstalling or updating DX was where my searches kept taking me- to the DX9 microsoft page. I think I might have to find a newer game that has it bundled on the DVD.

Oh, well. Thanks for the help. I'm determined to figure out this mystery, but I'm sure it will be a while.

I'm getting the same thing. NONE of LinGon's trainers work for me any more.

I think that another trainer creator has put something in their trainer to stop them working or something.

Now, I have trouble even getting the NFO reader to work on his trainers.

I've tried his trainers even with my AV and Firewall DISABLED. No joy. Sad

Does anyone know what would cause something like this, and is there any way to fix it?

I've scanned for viruses, spyware, adware, malware, ransomware, everything, but nothing comes up.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate, 4GB RAM, NVidia 640XT 2GB.

His trainers used to work fine for me. It was just all of a sudden that I found I couldn't use them any more.

IF the files didn't change (trainer.exe and game.exe - including sub-files), then something changed on your computer; either a windows update, AV update or other etc.

Lingon trainers don't work, he puts some weird country based code in his trainers that seem to activate his trainers based on your location. The worst thing is he packs them with a professional protector like he's hiding something.

I am not surprised you are having problems like a lot of other people.

Send him an email, nobody here can provide support for his work. Or use a trainer by someone else, there are far better trainer makers than him with more user-friendly trainers.

Intentional use of packers for free applications serves little beneficial purpose other than ego protection.

I admit, though, if I wanted to spread a virus, piggybacking on a trainer would be fairly ideal. Most people assume the source is original and safe, and just let them run as-is...sometimes, even disabling AV out of sheer desperation.

Yeah, from what i know, Lingon uses VMProtect to pack his trainers, also he steals code from others(people says), so just find another trainer than his.

and avntivirus mostly will not make the packed executable work ok, sometimes happens.

Make sure you don't have VMWare, Hyper-V or VirtualBox installed on your machine. if you have them, uninstall them completely or Lingon trainers won't work at all.

Yes, Lingon is just THAT paranoid

I have now a similar problem, the trainer won't run completely when i double click it, instead it gives me an App Crash message, about KERNELBASE.dll. this happened after I installed .Net Framework 4.6

if anyone know not so extreme solution to this, I'll be glad to hear it.

Contact Lingon directly, he checks his blog.

http://lingon.blogg123.se

We can all guess but ultimately he knows his trainers best Razz

Ok, I've noticed that Lingon trainer stopped working after I've opened CE while trainer was active. 1st I thought it was a coincidence, but it happened twice now with two different games (and two trainer foc - both from Lingon).

I've tried everything (short of reinstalling the game) to no avail. I still hear trainers activation sound when i press the HOME key, but nothing works.

Minecrawler, did you run CE at any time when trainer was active?
Also, anyone knows if trainers from Lingon put anything in the registry?

Don't get me wrong, I respect the guy and everything, makes best trainers out ther (imho), I would just like to get to the bottom of this.

Thanks for any advice/responses in advance.

Cheers

His trainer is probably detecting CE because he's afraid that people will steal his best trainers out there.
