Please discuss only if you have tried both Windows 7 and Windows 8 for at least 30 days.

Opinions, which is faster.
Would you recommend it to a friend?
etc...

windows 8 is great, it just takes a while to get used to the new interface but it becomes natural and very handy.
about performance, windows 8 is faster than windows 7. not by a lot, but it is faster.
there is still some compatibility issues with some obscure hardware though.

I use Windows 8 on my PC with a touch screen monitor. I did not notice a difference in performance between win7 and win8. I still use win7 on my laptop though.

Windows 8 is nasty. In my opinion, its just a ploy to push their mobile products. They probably had a hissy fit because of the dominance in that field that Apple holds. The services that applications use are also a bit more sluggish. It may be nice, to some people, on some of the mobile products that Microsoft shits out, but never on a desktop.

Ill stick with Windows 7 or ill buy a Mac.

Windows XP - OK
Windows Vista - FAIL
Windows 7 - OK
Windows 8 - FAIL

I see no big deal to get windows 8, in my opinion it's ugly, hard to get used to, and well performance... same as win 7. Better get mac.
Microsoft just want some $$, that's it.

People think desktops will continue being desktops, but the fact is mobile workstations will take over more and more. Why would anyone want a computer that's heavy and requires cables when you can just do the exact same thing on a surf pad? It's time to realize the static desktop will vanish more and more, and microsoft's latest OS proves to show that the large OS developers are moving towards the mobile market more and more as well. Sure, it's a big change, but it doesn't mean it's a bad one.

I'm using win8 on my work laptop just because I need to stay updated considering what profession I work with, but I've adapted myself pretty quickly. I don't use any apps at all though.
I personally believe windows 8 was pushed out too soon. Companies have just started to move over to windows 7 and for them there's literally no reason at all to make another jump. Not until the mobile market's actually a considerable choice for working environments. Right now there's not enough compatible products, (softwares and so on) that would make an investment in static -> mobile working environment viable.

Imagine having your entire virtual environment online, in other words you can take whichever computer and just log on to your cloud account and suddenly have access to everything you need to be an asset. You won't have to install, download, extract or copy anything at all, it's all there when you log in, wherever you log in, on whatever you log in with. That's the kind of market we're heading into, and I for one welcome it.

Because Apple isn't all about money, right? Windows 8 isn't a fail per say, it's just ahead of its market.

I don't see any reason why windows 8 is a FAIL. A lot of people are using it and most laptops today come with a copy of windows 8. It may be a little buggy, but that's something that can be fixed. No OS is perfect after all. For some, it may be hard to get used to but that's how technology works - we have to adapt in the new technologies. But for those who insist on still using windows 7, nobody is forcing anyone to upgrade to windows 8.

Yeah, I was just considering this when I installed Win8 on my laptop and it asked for a live ID to sign it.
Would be cool to see complete cloud computing.

i think that cloud computing is dangerous because you won't own you own data, and of course you'll have to pay a rent in order to access your own data, and for some random reason, the company that hosts you data, can easily steel it or make a copy.
also hacks could be dangerous, one just need your easy to guess password.
i prefer the old hdd thing, where you can magnetize it if you think your data is in danger. Wink

Obviously security checks must be A and O, but actually believing you're not already always vulnerable to a hacker who really wants your shit is naive.

Cloud computing doesn't necessarily mean outsourcing. You can still host it on your own servers and just have a pointer towards them. Think citrix but a more pimped up version.

And again, I think this is ahead of its market. It'll take time until companies will even move on after win7.

I wouldn't say it's that new. IBM has been trying to push cloud based computing since the 60s (It's just that the term "mainframe" sounds so old and boring that they renamed it to "cloud" recently. )

I'm using Win8 and there is not wrong with the OS. What most people complain with it is the missing start menu and the Metro UI. Just download Classic Shell to bring it back and Win8 feels just like Win7.
I didn't bother installing Classic Shell as after a few days of use I got use to it rather quickly. Seriously it's not that difficult to use, just use it little by little and you'll get the hang of it.
