|
|
My old computer died about 2months ago(The reason why i wasnt here for a long while) and on Sunday i finally bought a new computer which is an emachines EL1358. I know that it's not much but I know it is for me.
Currently it has a nvidia geforce 6160se/nForce 430 and an Athlon II 170u.
The reason why i want suggestions for upgrades is because so it can play minecraft or any other modern games on medium or high (or even between) graphics fluently without any lag spikes. And also the fact that im not very good at choosing gpu's.
Any suggestions?
(P.S. I would like a gpu that fits the casing of my computer.)

Looking at the specs for your system online, you have a really low end PSU to work with. From what I could find it is only 220watts, so you'll need to find a card that will work with a low end power supply. You have a PCIe x16 and PCIe x1 slot available in the system though so you can get a decent card given it is able to run with the psu you have.
The first card kls85 linked wont work, it requires too much from the psu.
Just look for something that is either low-profile ready or able to run with a 220watt PSU.

2 question:
How do you tell how much power the GPU requires?
What about the card's dimensions?

Since no one was smart enough to look, I'll break you the news. You cannot put a gfx card in this pc. Not only is it too small, it doesn't have a gfx card slot. How do I know? My sister used to have this exact pc. It lacks a pcie x16 slot all together. You can even see by the pics here: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0365731
Correct me if this is not your desktop as this is what google handed me by searching emachines EL1358. If I am correct, tough luck kid.

 | Not if its that pc. The pcie x16 slot was removed completely, and only the place for it was left. Still, that pc is way too small to fit. I remember it having the bay hole half the size of a normal one.
Also look at the shape of the psu. How would he find one in that shape? Normal ones don't look like that.

So does this mean i'd have to completely upgrade the whole casing of this computer?

Removed completely? I highly doubt it was removed and is still advertised as being there.
You mean the expansion slot in the back only being half-sized? Well, you can buy half-sized brackets and swap them out on the GPU, this is why they're only attached by screws.
The PSU is oddly shaped? It's still a PSU, it will still power what you plug into it so long as it has enough output to do so. The shape does not determine what it can and can't do.
The PC is simply a space saver. A small card will do just fine, and often small cards also come with half-brackets.

With that system I don't think you'll be playing modern games at medium/high. Perhaps low, but the system is holding itself back (lack of room, lack of power, lack of RAM (4GB max is not a lot. not even close to a lot)), and the case design is too small for proper airflow to keep it cool during high-stress times. It's as kls said - it's an office PC and I certainly hope you didn't spend too much on it.

No, almost every site suggests your system has two PCIe slots (x1, x16). Not saying that Hero is wrong, but majority of the sources suggest different. Check your system (take the case off and look) to see if the slots there. If you are unsure, take a picture of your motherboard and post it here.

Really..? Go Google his system (like I did before my first post) and see that every site suggests different for his system. Every single link on the first page of Google suggests his system comes with a x1 and x16 PCIe slot.

Which is why the 2nd card I've provided is also low profile and don't require
power from the PSU. The PCIe slot itself will have enough power to run that card. It also comes with the low profile brackets.
OP can open up the case and find out if there is a slot or not (taking a pic and posting it here). Unless that cover has a label which he don't want to break off because of warranty purposes.

And yes it was removed completely, or rather never installed,. The place where the pins would connect was there though. You could clearly see it would belong there. I dont know if this is the exact model of my sisters as her case was white, but the inside and the case shape match 100%. It was also an emachines.

The shape of the PSU does NOT matter. You can make it a damned pyramid if you want to, so long as the boards fit inside it and you have the power port on the back and cords running out of it, it will still do it's job.
if the slot isn't there at all but the solder points are, then the PC should simply be returned as a defect. Perhaps that's what happened with your sisters? Bad manufacturing and quality control? it's an e-machines, so I don't doubt it as possible.
@OP: open the case and tell us if there's a pcie x16 slot or not so we can calm this arguing.
