this is just like how your ISP can decide which websites it wants you to load faster and which slower. So for example, your isp might have it's own search engine that it wants its users to use. your isp would then simply make google take a longer time to load so you'd finally switch over to their serivce

Yes, the government should regulate the internet to some extent.

It won't happen. Currently in Australia the government are trying to blacklist sites. It will NEVER happen. Hell, even redtube is on the list.

I think they are trying to pass the list off as "Websites you would never want to go to anyway"

To some extent, yes.
But this is a democracy, after all.

no because censorship is wrong and also it would waste a retarded amount of money and time to remove every "inappropriate" thing on the internet.

Hahahaha, democracy means they can't start a fear campaign against <insert thing here> and convince parents, voters and legislators to vote for their bill to be passed?

This is a democracy. It can happen.

Assuming you're speaking of the United States government.

The government should not have any control over the Internet or telephone communications of any kind. This was only recently made possible by the PATRIOT act. Even more so, the government can record offshore communications without a warrant, and easily obtain a warrant for onshore monitoring. This has happened before, it was abused before, and it was removed because of this very reason. Many governments around the world have strict limitations on the websites a person can access, simply to keep their people uninformed and unable to act against the government to reform. It's quite annoying when people impose limitations on something they find unimportant when it does not cause them harm in any way. Murder is illegal because it causes harm. Privacy should never be illegal, it does not cause harm. It's a matter of suing the gun manufacturer or the person shooting the weapon, which makes more sense?

It doesn't matter what country. The internet should be regulated to *some* extent, but I don't think it should go farther than child porn and copyright restrictions.
