I have a Soundblaster X-FI XtremeGamer. :3 Along with Logitech Precision Headphones (Yes, the ridiculously huge headset).

Shitty onboard sound connected to a reciever powering a pair of Polk R50's, don't need anything special because since it uses SPDIF the quality isn't affected by the sound card just the reciever. For my headset I have an old Sound Blaster Audigy of some sort. Nothing too exciting.

i really dont notice a difference, and i use altec lansing subwoofer and 2 small, but fucking awesome, speakers with it.

ever since my PSU exploded (antec fucked me in the ass) my PCI slots stopped working. so my audigy 2 just sits there and does nothing.

on the gaming front, soundcard use is being phased out. doing it all in software is fast and sounds fine. CS:S is a good example.
