First of all: Are you using an emulator and playing TMNT 3 on it?

try using an Unknown intiial value search instead of the standard Exact Value search,
then use decreased value by 1 in the next scans, put in a few Unchanged Values searches in between losing lives to help narrow down the amount of found addresses,
if you cant find it with the decreased value by 1, then just use decreased value searches
you can sometimes find the life or ammo addresses by adding or subtracting 1 from the amount your searching for, so if you have 4 lives search for 3,
sometimes works for old games,
the code in the emulator probably wont help because that code tends to be optimised for use with a lot of things in the emulator games,
but the addresses tend to be static on the same pc anyway so you dont really need to find the decrease lives code,
it sounds like you need to go through the cheat engine tutorial tho because that Uknown Intitial Value method it shown in the tutorial,
this should also really be in the single player cheats requests section so best to post for anymore game help there,...

| Sounds like you are freezing a display value, and not the actual lives value.

I would use just decreased value instead of decreased value by 1.
