Hi Dark Byte and everyone,
First off, huge respect for 20+ years of Cheat Engine. It's an
amazing tool.
I wanted to suggest a feature idea and get your thoughts:
Idea: An AI helper for writing Lua scripts / cheat tables
Basically, a user could type something like:
- "Freeze health at 100"
- "Find the pointer for ammo count"
- "Make a script that gives infinite money"
...and the AI would generate a working Lua script or guide them
through the steps.
Why I think it would help:
- New users often struggle with Lua scripting and pointer scanning
- Even experienced users could prototype faster
- It could be an optional plugin, so it doesn't affect the core
My questions:
1. Is this something Dark Byte or the community would be interested in?
2. Has anyone tried building something like this already?
3. Would it be better as a built-in feature or a separate plugin?
4. Are there any technical limitations I should know about?
I don't have any coding or development background, so I can't
build this myself — but I'd be happy to test it if
anyone in the community is interested in making it happen.
Would love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks! |

Well, you are sitting on the side of the fence where you are gamer and want to cheat your arse off in some title. Which is fine, go and knock yourself out; there are a lot of AI tools, use them, become numb and dumb.
I am sitting on the side of the fence where I like to keep my mind fresh with constant challenges and learning. If I let AI do that, I lose the very reason I use this tool. All the fun out the window.
Lastly, DB has already started adding some AI features. I expect more will come. However, what I would like to see are helper functions that reduce the time spent on the repetitive and boring stuff (things that don't destroy my chance to learn):
- "here is a trace, where does XMM0 change and how? provide the list asm instructions and the values."
- "here is a trace, track the value read at this offset and tell me where it's changed in the trace. have a look at the image and tell me where else can the same value be read or written. provide a markdown listing reads and writes".
- "here is a base address of structure, please find RTTI info, find the name of the structured. Dissect the structure and apply known elements. provide the structure as a downloadable file so I can import into CE directly."
AI has its uses, however it shall never be about making people numb and dumb.
New users should struggle. It's called learning. Learning is the right reason to be using this tool. The product (the hacks) are just the proof that you've got it right.
If you don't know where to start, ask AI - there are tons of posts with tutorials on this forums and many others. By all means, let AI do the search for you so you have a clear path to your learning. But how on earth do you want to build a hack if you don't have a clue about how things work??? |

Currently, all the MCP-related repositories for Cheat Engine and Mesen on GitHub are incomplete / not yet fully functional. |
