Cheat Engine causing process to use large amounts of memory.

After scanning for values in DMC5, which runs on Re Engine, the game begins using almost all of my available memory, and continues to do so even after closing Cheat Engine for extended periods of time, roughly 10 full minutes before returning to normal.
By default, the game runs between 1200mb to 2600mb, but after scanning, the game continously runs near my available memory cap, at around 6500mb.

I'm here to ask if this is caused by DMC5's memory usage limit is larger than my available memory capacity, or if my Cheat Engine is not properly limited. Of course, also if it's both, or it's another reason I'm not aware of.

that's the way memory works in windows

the game actually uses 6.5 GB of memory but since you don't have enough RAM windows will write unused memory(e.g unused routinesn game assets not currently used in the game etc....) to disk or compress it until it's accessed again.

when you do a scan all the memory gets accessed so windows will load/decompress the unused memory so it can be read. It will take a while before the memory gets discarded again. And in the meantime other processes will slow down as their memory gets saved to disk resulting in almost constant diskaccess, or even crash if you've disabled pagefiles (of course if you have less than 6GB RAM disabling the pagefile is silly)

The best solution is to add more RAM

(or use kernelmode query virtual memory which only returns paged on memory)
