I haven't been able to find any documentation on setting up a pointer scan network using the distributed pointer scan. Is there any walk through or documentation anyone can point me to? Thanks.

Just the "Setup pointerscan network node" window
(ask specific questions and i'll try to answer)
You can setup the network in multiple ways
One main server that connects to other helpers, or other helpers connect to it.
Or you can have multiple servers, that you pointerscan can connect to.
Or multiple servers, each having a few children as well.
etc...
The first question to ask is: How many systems do you have, and how many of those systems can be reached from the system you wish to use the pointerscan with. (e.g if your scan initializer is on the internet somewhere else, ands your router only supports 1 port forward, then internally you'd have to let the clients connect to the public server and then let the scan initializer connect to the main public server)

My apologies, I have access to 4 systems. What I attempted to do was set up the main computer where I play my games on the parent. I then set up another computer right next to me as a child or so I thought.
All of the possible computers are on my LAN.
I have attached screenshots of my settings. I don't think these settings are correct. I can't seem to get the other computers to connect to the main one.
I'm assuming the main computer is the "Parent" and the other computers helping scan are the children. Is that correct?

Sorry, not trying to hijack this thread...
Interesting enough I was wandering this very thing too, I've always wanted to ask the DB or the community for assistance on this, but all I could find out was info about using android or something other like that...
...but, you're question and scenario is exactly what I wish for help on also...
again apologies to the op (@pin)...

It looks like there's a bug in the more recent versions of CE,(a timeout when you connect when there is no scan going)
but normally
main should be : allow parent and allow children
and connect to other node as unchecked
second should be as you've set it.
---
But for now, set both to allow parents to connect to me and uncheck "connect to other node as"
Then do a normal pointerscan
During the scan, enter the ip address ,port and optional password (can be empty) on the right side of the scanner view and connect . Do that for all 4 systems

Thank you for the walkthrough. I have two computers running at the moment and both screens show an active connection to the other. Is the "lowest known path" supposed to be different on each screen? It almost feels like they are running independently from each other.

lowest known path is just a half debug thing to see how far the scan has progressed.
The higher the value moves, the closer to the end you get. but in practice it has no use as there are huge gaps
The scanner will every now and then send queueitems over to the other servers when they are low on queue items.
Processing these items also generates new items so pretty much most of the time they are running independently.
Only when they finish, or the main controller is requesting some items from the queue since it's almost done they will talk. Besides that only status updates like paths/second , results found etc...
