I'm not sure if this is a problem with the cheat table or the engine itself, but the creator of the table is of no help so I'm asking here.
I got a new computer recently, and I copied all of my files for CheatEngine 6.6 over from the old computer so I don't have to set everything up again (Also, there's no executable download for 6.6 on the site since it's not the most current version). The reason for that is the table I use was built for 6.4. If I use 7.2, the table compresses somehow, cutting off a lot of values and making it unusable.
I use CheatEngine for the Steam port of Sonic Adventure 2, which is notoriously bad, having launch issues that depend on what graphics card you're using, among other problems. It's possible that this problem is because of something dumb like that, too.
What happens is that when I load into a stage, I'm given error 43s ("Error:sa2lua/common.lua:43: attempt to perform arithmetic on a nil value (local 'address')"). On the old computer, it will give me a usually small amount (sometimes it's large) and then work past it to finish loading what it needs to load. On the new computer, it keeps throwing the errors constantly and never works. The old computer also sometimes gets an error 89 ("Error:sa2lua/objchain.lua:89: attempt to perform arithmetic on a nil value (global 'objaddr')") when CheatEngine attaches to the game, but it doesn't do anything.
Ah. It has clearly been a while since I debugged anything, and I've never done it with CheatEngine or lua before.
The error in common.lua is in a function called LoadBinaryFile, and is happening within the for loop that I think writes the game file to into the table. The one in objchain.lua is the start of a function called NextObject(), where it uses a global variable.
I still don't know why that would have anything to do with my computer choice.
Also, is there a way to mention someone here? Upon further inspection, I found out that a) I was wrong about the actual author of the script, and b) the real author is on this forum (albeit, doesn't appear to be at all recently...)
