When I use Cheat Engine and the program that I have attached to crashes (HARD) the process will remain in the task manger and can't be killed until I close down Cheat Engine.

Is there anyway around this? Often I will have several instances open of the same .exe when I am memory searching and the automatic attach stops working. My computer will even run out of memory if there are too many left in the task manger.

At that point I have to quit CE and kill each instance, then set up CE again to continue my searches.

Looks like the issue is caused by "Even autoattach when another process has already been selected." I like this feature, but it is flawed because CE will not release it fully when the app that is attached HARD crashes.

Can this be fixed? or is there a way to kill the processes from within CE?

Error:[string "system("taskkill /im ppssppWindows64.exe /f"..."]:1: attempt to call a nil value (global 'system')

Tried with Quotes too.. no luck.

Running if from CMD window also will not work until CE is closed.

oh my bad, system is what C calls it CE uses shellExecute and it separates the executable name and arguments so shellExecute("taskkill", "/im " .. process .. " /f") (actually tested this time lol)

thanks, that seemed to work at closing the current process, however if you have a HARD crash where the .exe closes on its own, you can't kill it in CMD or shell unless you quit CE first.

You can see this by crashing an emulator (for example) with a bad memory change, then use the killtask command in CMD, and see that its locked untill you close CE.

Any other ideas? Is this a bug that should be reported to the developers?

The open source version of dot net basically I've got this bookmarked from when I looked into it a bit.

OK, I guess I don't have mono attached then. I have not compiled this or understand what its really for.

Chicken/Egg

If you have a .NET app which P/Invokes to an unmanaged library, which embeds Mono for basically 100% of its logic, bad things can happen:

I do have .net installed though.

Is there any other solution to the issue I reported?
