1. Does more cores increase the scanning or dissecting speed? For example, if I have i7-8700k(6 cores) and i7-9700k(8 cores), assuming their frequencies(Ghz) are the same and HyperThreading is off and ignore the differences between the cpu's architectures, which one is faster when dissecting code using CE, theoretically?

2. Does more threads increase the scanning or dissecting speed? For example, if I have i5-8600k and i7-8700k, assuming their frequencies(Ghz) are the same and HT is on for 8700k, which one is faster, theoretically?

Thanks.

1. 8-cores

2. i7

more cores means more threads, the higher the freq' the less time to execute. (sure some other intel's features may affect the speed)

also a good amount of ram resource is needed, high speed ram with high re-fresh rate is much prefered. (system bus is always 100mhz but if you can modify it to 110 or 105 it can be super cool but might be little bit to too much harmful)

just ignore system bus overclocking, stick with the defaults.

more cores is faster, but for scanning modifying the scanbuffer in settings also has a big effect which is dependant on the cpu type (it's cache size)

and yes, RAM speed matters. Eben though games themselves donxt go significatly faster (usually 0.1% faster) it does affect CE

Thank you both for the answers. I have two follow up questions:

1. Does a cpu with 8 cores and 16 threads faster than one with 8 cores and 8 threads when dissecting code with CE? Assuming everything else in the cpu are the same.

2. Is CE optimized for intel cpu but not for amd cpu)

Dr.Disrespect settings .. scan-settings .. size of scanbuffer in KB (default 4096 = 4MB) changing it to 16384 KB = 16MB can affect the speed a little bit.

i thought multithreading is used for dissect-code as well.

dissectcode is not multithreaded at all. It all depends on how fast your cpu and memory is

so it all depends on the freq' and memory

2. yes

remember CE can use multithreading technology, also dont forget features such Turbo-Boost and Hyper-Threading also affect the speed.

Thanks DB and OldCheatEngineUser, that helps a lot.

Edit:
Just want to provide some feedback: I did some test, intel cpu is way superior than amd cpu when dissecting code.

(False result, please see my post below)
My GF's i7-4790K needs about 55 mins to dissect fm.exe. Meanwhile, my ryzen 1700x needs literally 2 hours to dissect it. Not to mention 1700x is a much modern cpu, which came out years after 4790K.

How much ram does each system have? It could be it's too busy swapping out memory from disk to RAM and then back again

Mine (1700x) has 16GB, I think hers(4790k)has 8GB. Mine is DDR4 while hers is DDR3.

Same anti virus and other tools installed? Some anti viruses can really slow down memory scanning as they have a hook in the read/write API's (and some of them even break when using multiple threads)

I ran some further test, and the result of the two pcs were about the same. I think I might have something running in the background when I did the test on my pc. Sorry.
