On your local system, actively maintaining a secure system in any manner possible, or that you feel fit.
- Anti-virus software.
- Firewall software.
- Anti-malware / spyware scans.
- Keeping up to date with various OS updates that focus on security fixes and such.
Don't be stupid on the web, meaning don't click all the flashy links, ads, or download random files that are from untrusted sources. Scan everything you download. Run things in sandboxes or VMs that you otherwise don't trust.
Monitor any and all web traffic exiting your system or network in general for suspicious activity that you do not recognize. (Not just a PC or phone can be infected etc. especially now with how many things are connected to the web in a 'smart house' setup.) _________________
