If it is a problem of legal fees, then perhaps we could crowd fund it? Granted, this is unlikely. The member base here is somewhat small and legal fees to fight the ESA will probably be quite high.

(that's not exactly the topic, on FH, but no ban has or will be issued on FH for single-player only cheating.
Regarding value-storage, it's by design, as the game is mainly multi, so sometimes certain breaches in single cannot be easily allowed if we want to keep the multi safe and fair (but again, no bans on single cheat only.)

Hi lurking here for a very long time I looked at the thread talking about CE in mr Antifun forum, he did receive a similar letter in 2015 and asked beth.
And they confirmed they didn't issued it . Also they seemed to be targeted too. Or so he said at least.

they did reply to my reply, stating they are pleased with my cooperation, so that means the domain the email came from is valid(theesa.com) and they acknowledge that they sent it.

but as of yet have not pointed out anything specific

I'm new here and came in purely for the learning/programming aspect. What an amazing resource! The source code, this forum, the community and DB, thank you so much.

And yes, this thread was shocking to read.

I don't think there is anything illegal here according to NL law, just stuff the big boys on the other side of the pond do not like. But it matters not what is right, wrong, legal or illegal. They throw their mass around making threats on single individual, and it works, how any private individual can stand up against faceless organization with deep pockets and professional lawyers? How many of you would be willing to face years legal process, thousands of hours of work and hundreds of sleepless nights. All that cost too... It does not matter if the individual will win... all that effort is wasted, that is the real threat, more than any individual can handle, and that is what they count on.

If their requests are reasonable it is easiest to cooperate, compromise, add moderators etc.. If something needs to be censored or restricted, I'm sure it will pop up somewhere else in the depths of the web where no single person can be targeted the same way, so nothing is lost.

If they are unreasonable, like demanding things without being specific (like the excerpt from their letter I saw, specifying no laws broken, with no specific clients or products, no specific pages or threads offending them) it is best just to say that you cannot do anything without them being more specific. That way they need at least work a little. Same goes for emails. Things are not real (or legal) until you get paper letter from a verifiable company in your home country.

Print out everything you receive and send, just in case. I also suggest to consider legal advice. Few hundred Euros at this point just to hear that you have nothing to worry can make you sleep much better.

One way is to form a company to develop CE and to run the forum. It hires DB for 1€ per month. It's the magic of corporations, no personal risk or liability involved. (How else you think people get rich?)

I don't mean to patronize either. Whatever DB decides, must be accepted and supported from every single one of us. This is his creation and his work and his time and life.

Also I want to add that I read the forum today for the first time and I saw many idiotic posts, and each time DB personally answered, in informative, polite and nice way, totally going out of his way for every single one of us.

I would also recommend moderators to ensure a backup plan(s) so the community can function even if shit hits the fan. What if this forum goes dead by court order or other nasty surprise? Who, and how, then, can we support DB? If people can communicate and work together, we have much better chance of supporting DB in whichever path he decides to take.

Infringing upon... what utter bollocks! You don't charge a single penny for any of this stuff, and it's implied you have to own the game to hack it anyway. And we all understand hacking anything online risks breaking ToS and getting ourselves banned. There's nothing infringed upon. If nothing else, it enhances the experience for people that want to dick around in a game they already own. If we're 'ruining the experience' for ourselves, so what!? It's OUR experience.

Fucking cockups like this piss me off. Not surprised Bethesda's name's attached to it all, either. They do love their lawsuits.
