Someone's ignorance is a completely valid form of dismissal, none was an ad hominem. If I said he was wrong because he is a shoplifter, that is an ad hominem. I said he was wrong because he is ignorant, of course someone ignorant is going to give a response contrary to one educated. |

That is ad hominem now though because you further explain you reject my claim because of the opinion you have of me not the substance of the argument, "ad hominem is a logical fallacy in which an argument is rebutted by attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself"
