#2 STAY OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST
#3 Stop fucking bombing the shit out the middle east with our drones, they are mostly killing civilians.
#4 Stop allowing Muslims to freely enter the country without extensive background checks. Islam is a KNOWN religion of terrorism, it's up to the individual to decide how much of a believer they are. |
1. Bomb the shit out of the oil fields that ISIS owns. That is their only economic outlet
2. Stop allowing Muslims to freely enter the country without extensive background checks
3. No Syrian refugees. Instead of letting the refugees of war into America, we need to economically aid them to build settlements that are peaceful and lawful in the middle east. We can help them without bringing them here.
4. Once terror groups are out of the middle east, bring our troops home | AHAHAHAH there will always be terrorism in the middle east. | SinStar87 wrote: | | Clifford wrote: | | Like I said, can you name another pro for accepting these people besides the fact that we feel sorry for them? |
Understanding, perhaps exposure to average US citizens will humanize our people so rather than random aggressor they have a face when they think about US. Worked well with German POWs in WW2 where they went home with stories of the great Americans.
Reciprocity, they'll feel we helped them and will open up cooperation in the future.
Education, as you said they don't have much, education is important for development so they'd have access to it.
Ofcourse with asshats shouting, Keep the Brown people out, this might not work so well. | the us has done an overall good job of integrating migrants compared to most of EU. See the number of deaths due to terrorist attacks post 9/11. Its like less than 30.

| Clifford wrote: | | SinStar87 wrote: | | No it's a pretty clean comparison, guns or refugees works well as a sum up of positions in either argument. And .5% is about the odds of dying in a car crash in your life, I get into cars all the time, and we have right to carry here so the odds against the terrorists would be even better. You should ask yourself why is your position here not rational like the one from gun control was? |
The difference is very clear; there are actually pros and cons with the right to carry, meanwhile there is only one pro and all the rest cons for accepting the refugees.
With accepting Syrian refugees, there is only ONE pro to accepting them, and that is that we feel sorry for them and want to help them out. Can you name another "pro" to accepting these people? Most of them are unskilled and uneducated, so they will be impoverished. They will facilitate on welfare heavily for the first few years and bog down the economy, adding to the national debt. Most of them don't speak English, so they will isolate themselves from the rest of America in their mosques and possibly self-radicalize if they don't feel like America has been good to them. Not to mention the refugees have been rioting in the countries that they have entered so far.
Obviously, the biggest con of all is that ISIS militants are hiding amongst the refugees, and are planning to attack once they enter the country. How can anyone filter out the terrorists from the rest? We can't. That's why it is too risky to accept these people.
Seriously, what are the "pros" to accepting these people? |
you think that your life is much more important than theirs.

Like it or not, but Trump made an excellent observation about these so-called "refugees."
He said this back in October:
| Donald Trump wrote: | “I’ve been watching this migration. And I see the people. I mean, they’re men, they’re mostly men, and they’re strong men,” Trump said on “Face the Nation.” “What I won’t do is take in 200,000 Syrians who could be ISIS.”
“These are physically young, strong men. They look like prime-time soldiers. Now, it’s probably not true. But where are the women?" |

Well you've abandoned all rationale and reverted to fright rhetoric.

All publicity is good publicity, and showing that we care for the refugees by allowing them to enter the country can only reflect positively on the international stage. However, since we are showing signs of sympathy to displaced Syrians, Daesh can use this as leverage in order to cause terrorist attacks domestically. Personally, Daesh is a problem, but not the biggest. Not downplaying what happened in Paris, because that shit is fucked up, but the chances that Daesh has the resources to pull of something like "World War III" catastrophic is close to none. The attack on Paris sent two messages to the US: that they can attack wherever they want, but are also desperate enough to attack in order to gain manpower due to the exponential loss of soldiers caused by constant fighting with all sorts of different actors. THE SIMPLEST WAY TO END THE CRISIS IN SYRIA (though not popular to the Western Powers) IS TO SIMPLY GIVE ASSAD FULL REIGN OVER SYRIA |
| Economist side of xDeviance wrote: | | The issue with allowing them to come seek refuge in the US is more of a long-term issue. Similar to illegal immigration, it will ruin the job market for citizens/permanent residents who are seeking work. Once that happens, US citizens will resort to finding jobs oversees. In a politico-economical standpoint, lower wages = less tax money = less governmental revenue = less long-term infrastructure improvements and less military spending. In today's international stage, realism reigns supreme over the liberal left. Security is everything, and the only way that there will ever be peace in the world is if we see something like the Cold War where all these hegemonic challengers are so coked out of their fucking mind and have thriving nuclear warfare programs, and everyone is scared to push the fucking button. That's true world peace in today's age. |
My personal opinion: We should not them in.
| GannoK wrote: | | #1 Stop military influence in the middle east. Russia is doing more than the U.S. to legitimately stop ISIS at this point. |
Russia is only doing it so the Assad regime stays into power. Would you rather have a corrupt official in power who is well-known for KILLING MORE CIVILIANS in Syria than Daesh?
| GannoK wrote: | | #2 STAY OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST |
NEVER GOING TO FUCKING HAPPEN. There are way too many international actors (30+ ACTORS, MORE THAN THIRTY DIFFERENT PEOPLES ARE INVOLVED SYRIA) with different interests in Syria, including ourselves, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Turkey and the EU. If we stay out of the Middle East, we take away our viability in the international stage. We give more power to those that are staying in Syria/Mid East conflict to dictate what will happen to the rest of the international community.

I mean, to be fair our national sovereignty is founded through the genocide of the Native Americans, but that's none of my business.

Agreed, and Abraham Lincoln was an asshole who didn't want to free the slaves.

If we're going with this logic, we are all part of the European royal families.
