Seriously ? What's up with that garbage ?
I don't like windows 8.1 too much, but I felt wayy better when I downgraded back to windows 8.1, I assume it's less shittier.

Everytime I see the notification that tells me to get windows 10 I can't stop laughing.
Plus when I saw they changed the name of ie because it was shit, couldn't stop laughing aswell.

Windows 7 is way better, it's like microsoft forgot that they are users with keyboards and mouse nowadays.

Your thoughts on that os ? If you like to browse useless forms and single-colored windo~boxes you can, no offense tho, I'm just curious, just a poll.

After Windows 10, I can never go back to 8. It's a really good OS, not sure what's with all the hate (as opposed to them collecting data but... since when is that a new thing? Microsoft always sent data to their servers from your pc)

While they have collected information in the past, it has been very limited in what they did collect and they did not really attach it to anything that would identify you personally to that data. However now, Microsoft is collecting nearly everything from your drive including personal documents, emails, etc. in which are stored attached to your live account. So they can completely link the data to you.

They also share that data with advertisers which is one of the bigger concerns. While Microsoft may have your best interest in heart (lol yea right) their partners do not and can misuse that information as they please.

As for Windows 7/8/8.1, keep in mind that Microsoft has been pushing updates recently for those OS's as well that include the similar spying shit that Windows 10 has now. So keep an eye on what updates you accept.

An interesting thing to test would be to make a brand new Live email just for your Windows 10 login / system. Never use that email anywhere else at all, do not sign up for anything with it. However, use the computer as normal everyday life, emails, gaming, browsing the web, etc.

And see how long it takes before that brand new email that has nothing else linked to it but Windows 10 starts getting spammed.

Pretty much what atom0s said, the data "spying"/advertising.. just.. why ?

Could you develop ? What makes it so different from your perspective ?

And I don't like the new flat trend gui (personal preference) seems too retarded, I like some flat material design, such good logos and stuff, but designing a gui that has one main color.., not mentionning the menus that I found not that intuitive. I think they tried to do something user-friendly and with windows 10, they kinda made users more dumb:
you click on buttons, see smooth one-color-menus fading, with the same loading dots circling around, fade-out and fade-in in every loading page..
you don't have to "think" anymore like in windows 7 (I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but seems to retarded for me, SMART PEOPLE WILL DISAPPEAR (erm..)).

The cortana thing is a good idea, but is it really necessary, from my point of view isn't, but is it a good argument to sell the os ? Doesn't attracts me that much.

Voila, seems to user friendly, attracts people cauz it's easy right, and behind the scenes, they collect various things (ok it's not google, but who knows what happens next).

They incorporate microsoft products in the os, that pisses me off (onedrive in the properties)..

advertising/selling users info -> if you really need money and you release an os, for god sake don't make it free for loyal users that think it's so cool to have w10 if it's to sell us right after.. 'just a backstab

(off-topic)The thing i like are the task manager and the explorer (Progress bar chart + pause buttons, very useful) since windows 8.

I wouldn't say it's complete trash, but I got hyped for nothing, I don't like it.

Interesting idea, I like this one !

It's a shame that they don't ask you if you want a local account or an email account at the beginning (at least not for me), had to do it after.

Tfw I try to convince friends that Windows 10 violates your privacy and sells your personal information, making us consumer technology slaves, and I get called crazy.

"technology slaves" > brilliant term, i was searching for it

"install gentoo" > from my pov, linux systems seems hard to master (but there are no processes running in the background stealing your data, in theory), but pretty great when mastered, and gentoo seems fully customizable, but idk, in the future i'll install a linux os for sure, i don't feel installing one now, i might downgrade to windows 7, love this one.
(This update thing that mentionned atom0s is scary, why on earth would they do that, if the os were free, i would understand (even though there are limits), but since we pay theses.. Fck this)

you're crazy
literally every tech giant collects your info for the same reasons, I don't see why microsoft gets all the hate while google and facebook get a pat on the back

As far as W10 goes, it seemed like 8.1 with a couple new features, not much to speak of so far.
The start menu is nice, cortana isn't all that useful to me personally, I haven't looked into the package manager yet but I heard there was one, and dx12 is going to be exclusive and that's gonna add like 50% performance boosts to games or some shit, which gives me even less reason to upgrade from my gtx 680 that still maxes everything.
Unfortunately a lot of software is still incompatible with 10, but that's not 10's fault, it's just what happens with new versions.
So I switched back to 8.1 to be able to do everything I need to for the moment, like run virtual machines (can't install vmware, virtualbox crashes on startup, etc.)

I never denied any of the things other tech giants have done. I'm saying we can comfortably move away from dependency on big brother ing general if we just adopt the most theoretically functional OSs, not just just the most currently practiced. Open source is like having everyone's computer be the same computer, and everyone tries to find ways to improve the system. In theory it will allow for the most functionality in an OS, and could create multiple new networks and markets.

yeah but right now linux is not accessible
I tried it out several times and found it to be needlessly complicated for personal use
command lines are for servers, not when I want to install a new web browser or shit like that
until open source stops being equal to some assembly required, it's not going to be mainstream
that said, there's no money developing for open source
name an open source project, it runs on donations
there's no profit to be had, and profits drive innovation
sure, you can release open source software with paid licenses, but all one has to do is compile the software themselves and use it illegally, it's like piracy but easier
so where's the incentive to move away from proprietary?
open source is a utopian dream, man

I bet if we all just picked up open source programming today, in 10 years from now we would be significantly improved in our economy, other technologies, and education would be streamlined.

As a developer myself, there is pretty much no difference between Windows 10 and 8. I personally prefer 7 myself but do have Windows 8.1 on two of my systems to test things I work on and such. I don't allow Windows 8.1 to update at all though, it is stock base 8.1 with no updates as I'm not interested in the barrage of spying from Microsoft on my things.

It's more or less a matter of personal preference/taste. I enjoy the flat style myself (known as metro). But I do agree that Windows 10 has made it a bit more complicated for those that are not that computer savvy. Some of the older crowd in my area that has asked for assistance is typically for basic things like trying to find the 'Print' button in Outlook / Email apps on Windows 8/10 since its so hidden now.

Some of the ideas work, some do not.

To me, on a desktop no, Cortana is a waste of time. I can see it being useful on a portable device like a tablet/phone for ease of use to do simple tasks, but on a desktop, I feel its pointless and useless.

This is something a lot of companies are fighting to stop having happen on Windows. There has been fights for not allowing Microsoft to specifically offer their own web browser as well as their own media player(s). But given that it is Microsoft's operating system, there is not too much that can be done to completely block them from having their own products on the OS.

There is a way to create a local account on Windows 10, it is just hidden to try and stop people from doing it.

It's more or less because of how Microsoft went about doing things. Google and Facebook have had their share of hate for their data policies as well, it is just that when they happened, social media was a lot less relevant than it is now, so more people today have a lot more access to finding things and hearing about them.

If Google or Facebook just started today with how much social media things are around now, they would probably get just as much, if not more, hate like Microsoft is getting now.

Also don't plan on getting a 50% boost on DX12, it's not going to be that much.
