Google asks people questions now?
Also this shouldn't even be marijuana alcohol is being compared to because it's actually being used to help society with the amount of people able to get such strong benefits from it. Alcohol is just literally a poison, but you don't see people trying to end it like they want to end cigarettes. I get a lot of creative energy when I smoke, have a more regulated sleep schedule, eat less overall (I may still binge on the comedown, but my appetite is more suppressed while high), and it really helps me deal with my anxiety. The main problem with it is that it just costs too much.

As of right now, I think marijuana is more harmful to society than alcohol.
Its not about which substance is more harmful physically for a person.
Both substances hit immensely to people's productivity, the differential factor is that most people I know who smoke week, think that it is ok to smoke it even in situations when drinking alcohol is not ok.
This situation being mainly: work breaks and in between classes/lectures.
If they were to keep it for recreation at the right moments like parties or hanging out responsibly with friends, I would think them both as equal or even the alcohol being worse, but right now that's not happening.
(If it is not ok to go drunk somewhere, it is also not ok to go high)

Your post is misinformed. Using my self and many others I know and have seen online as evidence, weed does not make you unproductive, that's complete BS. Weed makes you feel good and ails your pain. I smoke weed before work, on breaks, and while I'm doing all sorts of shit and I get a lot done. It's about the individual, not the substance. There is a reason why Cannabis has it's own classification of drugs. Alcohol is a depressant and a poison. It literally kills you and has no medical value. Stop pretending that alcohol is not something that bad. There are calculated deaths every year from just drinking related events, and how many are there with weed again? I think because you don't live in a culture where weed is accepted as a legitimate thing, your opinion is skewed to that of an alcoholic culture. Weed is not bad and can be controlled just fine by individuals who are motivated enough to do things with their life, and there are PLENTY of examples of people like that

Indeed, weed is illegal in my country, even so several of my friends smoke weed and some of my coworkers do. Out of a sample of 20 people, which are still a segmented sample because they are only people close to me, the 20 are less productive if productive at all after smoking weed.
So, we disagree. I can only see you as the small percentile. There are no absolutes, I'm sure there are some people that see benefit in productivity from smoking weed, but that is not the vast majority. At least not in my direct environment.
And note that I didn't say that alcohol was not harmful in any way.
About statistical deaths from alcohol and weed, it is different. You will see that there are way less death by accidents (alcohol related) in a society with gun control and hence the illegality of weed there are way more deaths related to it. But that's a whole different subject.

I believe you have missed the point of Gogo's post.
Weed, like other depressants, lowers reaction time and cognitive function. No one should ever purposefully impair themselves while doing things that require full awareness. It is completely inexcusable to be high while being responsible of anything that endangers someone else's well being, whether it be driving, working, or watching a child.

To claim pro-legalization and in the same pragraph use your irresponsible use of weed as "evidence" is why weed remains illegal in much of the world. If you (by "you", I mean weed supporters) want weed legalized, then step to the plate and use it responsibly. Feel free to use it when at home, but don't use it at work. You can't prove the to the world that weed can be used responsibly without government control if you can't govern your own selfs with it.

Honestly because it didn't give and option for both and or neither, I actually sat and thought it out. I looked at it from the complete outside, firstly I do support the legalization of weed, however strictly enforced legalization I still support it.
Both weed and alcohol bring money to areas
both affect areas in negative and positive ways
they are almost equals (to agree and disagree with nirojan)(you say you can smoke and work but its all about amounts you ain't gonna hit 6 dabs then go back inside completely stoned you are useless, same goes for alcohol i can take a shot before work and work fine but u ain't going in after drinking a handle lol)
Also its like a trick question
because it doesn't state a time frame
one could argue weed is more harmful than alcohol because of its illegal status
people die over it the sale the trafficking the growing disputes
people spend time in prison for getting caught
then you can also argue the mental state of a drunk person vs a high person
for the most part weed tends to lead to mellowness
where alcohol leads not always but often to rage
a drunk man is more likely to rape or beat someone than a high one
not saying its not possible or doesn't happen often the other way around just its more common
then you have gogos case which is also very valid is people thinking oh weed is nothing i can operate this machinery(car/work/ect) while high and end up losing a limb or worse hurting someone else

You can say that weed has a correlation with being unproductive, but there is no concrete evidence for this to be true, and vice versa with what I claim. It should be legal and be allowed usage for anyone over 18. If they become unproductive after smoking weed, that is their problem, not marijuana. Some people require to have THC in their system everyday to help with their problems. Nobody needs alcohol in their system, it's purely recreational. One is medicine, one is a poison.
And shot as soon as I read that you said weed was a depressant, I didn't bother reading what you have to said. You don't know shit.

Another HUGE point I forgot to make is that alcohol is also physically addictive. My parents were both alcoholics, so I know the effects it has on society with all the domestic violence growing up. Weed doesn't make you throw up if you do it a lot and feel terrible to the stomach, black out and have sex with someone you don't want to, and it can be pretty hard to tell if someone is high on weed if they use eye drops and are use to the effects, so they can still get stuff done in a professional environment.
