just got promoted to head cook at work because i am the most reliable, hardest working, and best cook we have in the kitchen (despite the lack of experience). on top of that i am willing and able to work 50-60 hours a week (don't have another job). this includes a raise and no longer have to come in early in the morning to set up or stay until 12-1 a.m. (depending on whether it's a weekday or weekend) cleaning up. i will now get to come in around noon after everything is set up, be in charge of the kitchen, have people working under me, delegate tasks, take stock/inventory making sure what we need to buy more of, making sure we never run out of any stock or prepped items, knowing how much we need for that night, not prepping too little or too much depending on what it is that's prepped, and won't have to stay late to clean up after work. that is what the other cook working with me is for.
same day, today some more great news. so about a week ago i became assistant house manager of my sober living that i've been at the past year. i acted as house manager for the house i'm assistant at while the house manager was in canada for his sisters graduation for a week. the directors and other managers were so impressed by how well i did that i was informed earlier today i'm going to become a full house manager of one of their other houses. so also a bit more responsibility at home as well as work, but instead of half rent i recently earned i will be getting free rent.
so i am seeing my hard work paying off and others are noticing too. i am being both rewarded and challenged because they see potential, believe i can handle it, and believe i am the person for this job.
it's a great feeling knowing that when i personally work hard at life i am able to kick ass. obviously if everyone put 100% into everything they did (which i try to do these days) they'd get way further in life. but of course some people are more limited than others while others can exceed way beyond average. we all have our own strengths and weaknesses. there are certain things people simply will never be great at no matter how hard they try and will only be able to achieve so much.
and while this is a lot of work, taxing physically and mentally, stressful, it's very rewarding and i can see these gifts continuing to come if i keep this up in all aspects of life and never stop, never be content with where i am at. as long as i'm constantly trying to grow, constantly trying to get better, challenging myself i see myself going far in life.
