not entirely, nor is it a biggest chunk in the profit margin. apple spends much more money than any other tech company (maybe besides microsoft) in marketing, branding, and packaging. it's not always about the quality of the product that creates a great business. it's the business model and their resources to fight obscurity.
Im sure you or anyone can make a better burger than mcdonalds, but they're the #1 best seller in burgers, toys, and chicken because of their business model. They have a massive fucking distribution, so if they start selling tacos tomorrow, it will become top seller.
apple is the most recognizable and sensational brand in the world. theyve developed their own community thats nothing like any other company. they can start a tour around the world and have a big crowd of fans following them from tour to tour because that how welded they are with company to customer relationship. I don't know if youve bought an apple product before but opening it up is the most gratifying thing ever because so much is spent in packaging them. all that shit cost a lot of money.
people buy with emotion, not logic. customers dont care how shitty apple products compared to other companies because apple understands that concept.

mcdonalds R&D lasts years, and they still have massive failures such as their pizza or more recently the mighty wings which did not sell AT ALL
so no matter how big a company is if it releases a shitty product, it wont sell.

i don't understand what the whole my phone will crash freeze or get a virus argument is about
i have a almost 4 gen old galaxy s3
and in november i will have had it for 2 years
it worked fine for the 5 months i had touchwiz no crashing super snappy
great camera ect at its time it was one of the best phones you could get
64gb+16gb storage
i have not once experienced a virus or even adware (maybe im just not a tard)
they released data like last year showing android was more secure than apple so idk why people still say androids wil gets u virus lelel
not only that but its unlocked and i have been using custom rom for more than a year now with no major problems (yes occasionally when taking a pic the phone will crash (maybe 1 out of 100 times) because its a custom rom with all the kinks not worked out (and even when it does happen my phone resets in 30-40 seconds))
but the benefits outweigh the fact it rarely ever crashes
i have it in performance mode 24-7 overclocked to max speed on cpu
i have universal system wide faggot that modifies my host file so my phone is 100% cockblocked even in web browser
i have custom button mapping
custom themes
free in app purchases
resource hacking
dsploit
wifikill (I can kick anyone and everyone off a public wifi hotspot and use it all for my self)
floating apps and multi windows
tl;dr
its 2014 almost 2015
Android is no longer behind
its lightyears ahead

Seems like you would rather fuck around with your phone and make it all 'custom' instead of being productive and using your phone to accomplish tasks and actually be functional to do what you actually need it do, which is? play games?

Im not in any way saying apple lacks in productiveness, I actually love apples work space/environment
I like a lot of things about apple ive own several products from them
I don't play games i have 0 installed
the main things i use my phone for are all configured to work seamlessly and perfectly
another thing i don't get is why people are like lol broke bitch
when my phone cost just as much if not more than an iphone?
also the main reason i don't apple is removable battery and storage
I know the arguments against them but they are not strong enough and just silly
im waiting till late 15' for my upgrade
which will most likely be a note 5 or the better (android) variant
What I really would like as soon as possible

Removable bat
2k+ Screen
5+ inch screen
IR blaster
128 GB
4GB RAM (unnecessary but why not with a x64 chipset)
Wireless Charging (unecessary as well just a wishful extra)
^ put all the above in a phone and you will make billions
