Cheat Engine

Im trying to use cheat engine for an old 1997 game called war inc (not the online game).

I have the game running via dos box, and i attach cheat engine to the dosbox process. However it cannot seem to find the values for money in this game.

You start the game with $5 million dollars, so i've been searching for 5,000,000 (minus the commas).

It cannot find the value though, and even if i use type "all", i just get random results that do not correspond to what is ingame (for example i tried spending some money and searching for it again, but could not find the money address with this method).

Any idea how to make it work, or does cheat engine just not work with dos box?

Use unknown initial value and changed/unchanged scans to find it

Also, enable mem_mapped regions in scan settings

Perhaps 50000000 is stored as 500

Yea i couldnt find it with unknown intiial scans, but i managed to narrow it down to a series of hex values using changed/unchanged. Usually i get way too many values if i just use change/unchanged.

So it seems like the money value is stored as a hex value that is part number part alphabet.

Am i supposed to just take 5 million and then convert it to hex value if i want to search for exact value?

Im also trying to find the address for the dates ingame, but searching with unknown initial value is giving me WAY too many results....and all the results i get are irrelevant. For example 1 byte values of "24". I ended up with 200+ values and none of them appear to fit...

The dates are displayed like 09/15/2021 ingame , and searching for hex values hasnt helped unfortunately.

Its so old that im pretty sure its no longer being sold anywhere, but im not sure if its legal to download for free.
