I'm using Hotspot Shield to mask my IP address, and while sites like http://www.whatismyip.com/ and http://whatismyipaddress.com/ all say my IP address is from somewhere in California, when I google ''what is my ip" Google still says ''Your public IP address is 'my real ip address' ".

How is this possible?

because google is a fucking botnet, dont use google, dont use anything related to google.
most likely they can detect you're using a vpn and already have your ip address logged from before and are showing you that. contact your isp to change your IP, use your vpn and then try again

I'm taking a wild guess here:
you might be only using your proxy on the port 80
if you dont tunnel your ports you will be using your normal IP on HTTPS websites and Websokets connections on custom ports.
