I can't stand metro, call me a GUI purist but I prefer the traditional computer interface, metro is a big step backwards. Windows 7 began to approach a level of realism not previously seen with Microsoft's products, then they wrecked it. Oh well, I guess they've run out of original designs and got bored from copying the mac.

I'm using windows 7. I don't want to upgrade it. Can anyone here share some tips about win 8. If it is best than 7?

Hey great question, I have used both Windows 7 and Windows 8 for a while on the same PC. My computer is a high end PC.

With Windows 7 it takes a total of about 7-8 seconds to boot up, usually 7.2 - 7.3 seconds.

With Windows 8 it loads up with 3 - 5 seconds. I am not making these numbers up I am quite the computer geek lol, I actually timed them both.

Also, while using both Operating Systems, Windows 8 is definitely much better in performance, it runs great.

Windows 8 Boot Screen will take getting used to because of the new apps it has that the older OS's from Microsoft never had but it's not a big deal, it's easy to get used to once you understand it. Lot of people above said negative things about Windows 8, in my opinion it is definitely not a fail like windows vista was, I personally think it's the most stable OS microsoft has to offer so far. Yes I know some drivers may not be compatible but that's normal. It is a new product, windows 7 wasn't compatible with all drivers when it first came out either. It'll take a few more months for it to become compatible with more devices.

i never had win 8, but it looks annoying when people try to get from desktop to start menu. You like have to swing your cursor from left side of the screen to the right side (and all other gestures).

All i can say about win8 is that the startmenu isn't properly designed. The track distance between two common function is often too big.
E.g: run a application as admin.
In windows 7 you rightclick a icon and then move a max of 25 pixels to the Run as administrator option
In windows 8 the distance tends to be more than 900 pixels

I didn't notice that, it's a good observation but does it really matter that much?

The system that i installed windows 8 on has a pretty slow mouse, and i mainly use it for software development, so i often need to run notepad as admin. That actually causes my hand to hurt from the scrolling

I've been using Windows 8 for about four months now.
I hated it because of the hot corners and shitty start menu, was gonna format it as soon as I could, but never got to it (I procrastinate a lot). So yesterday I finally decided I was sick of it and started deleting all the crapware that came pre-installed, and disabled all the things that annoyed me about Windows 8.
Gotta say, it's pretty great now. Should have just done this a lot sooner.

Sounds like a problem for a slow mouse. My mouse runs 5700dpi on the desktop and is fast as all hell.

My beef is LOLAMD drivers are constantly fucked up on windows 8 still. w7 are perfect and amazing. I have a w8 pro key so when they fix all the issue I may upgrade.

inb4konrdpidoesn'tmatter

It matters when the mouse uses a driver to ignore any mouse sensitivity by windows or other programs.

I see no big deal to get windows 8, in my opinion it's ugly, hard to get used to, and well performance... same as win 7. Better get mac.
Microsoft just want some $$, that's it.

I don't see any reason why windows 8 is a FAIL. A lot of people are using it and most laptops today come with a copy of windows 8. It may be a little buggy, but that's something that can be fixed. No OS is perfect after all. For some, it may be hard to get used to but that's how technology works - we have to adapt in the new technologies. But for those who insist on still using windows 7, nobody is forcing anyone to upgrade to windows 8.

I agree with you...

I liked both of them. I mean as a general user i can play my games on both. Everything i did worked about the same speed. I'm still using windows 7 i had no need to upgrade, i just never really used the new dashboard thingy or took advantage of it. If I wasnt lazy and go through the whole upgrading thing, sure i would. Windows 7 for now though.

I wish they would have improved things like having to reboot after every update more. As it is now it boots faster than Windows 7 however in my case with a SSD drive it's only a difference of a couple of seconds. I do prefer the old start meny over Metro too. The interface is split into two parts in a strange way. However with some tweaks and extra programs Win 8 can be adapted to feel pretty nice.

how about compatibility ? will everything run just like it does in win 7 or you'll have compatibility issues ?
i know in vista nothing worked.
in 7 instead everything works.
btw can you delete metro and the welcome screen ? i mean win 7 interface and win 8 engine.

can't you just use Ctrl+Shift and double click ? in win 7 that does start the process as admin.

I don't think there is an "official" method but plugins and addons that do just that exist.
