when it comes to English. The sentence he said was something like "He helped me break from a futile pursue", so I said he must have meant pursuit. He then proceeded to tell me that he isn't wrong because he chooses to speak that way. I explain that isn't how it works and he is wrong and that he should just get over himself and admit he's wrong when he uses the wrong word. He's been arguing about how superior he is for a good hour now and still refuses to admit that using pursue instead of pursuit is wrong.

He's correct that it isn't wrong if he choses to speak that way.
But it isn't English anymore. English follows a set of rules.
It can be considered something else, not English.
Meaning, in any official environment where he's required to speak/write English, people will treat him like the jackass he is.

Using the wrong word, in any shape or form, even if it isn't just to seem edgy, is wrong.
But if you look at it as if it's a "language of his own", then it is correct. Who're you to decide what his language is like, etc... crap like that.

It isn't correct in English, though. So if he thinks he's speaking English then smack him.

I'm on his side. If I said some word wrong and someone corrected me I would also talk like i was right even if I knew I was wrong just because of principle.
