have no interest in using hard drugs anymore. its hard for me to say i'm never going to drink the rest of my life since that would be a lie. i dont want to be that one person at a wedding, sporting event, party, etc. that says "i cant drink." i'm also on formal probation for 1-3 years depending on when my probation officer lets me off. he drug tests me and if i test dirty i go back to jail for 1-3 years. even though i'm only tested once every two weeks i'm not going to try getting high then giving myself enough time to be clean for my tests because i know that won't work. i'll continue using when i tell myself "i won't use the next day." and the thought of doing what i used to be doing doesn't even sound fun anymore. the fun ended a long time ago. i wasn't having a good time getting high, it was miserable.

Congrats, dude. Hope you do well. One of my mom's friends went to rehab for alcohol, he got out in April and he's been doing great. He hasn't had anything to drink in about 1 1/2 years.

He himself never has a drop of alcohol and while I don't think that's a bad idea, I would think that never having it again is a bit much. I would definitely think you should start off like that, at least for a little while, and then if you think you can handle it try a bit at a party or something.
