I'm not getting Skull Candy. They sound the same as the dollar store pair.

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro's, probably the best sound you will get for $100.
Unless you find a used HD 380 Pro, which sound a lot better but normally cost $200. |

You must have a really great dollar store.
I know skullcandy is a step down from pro audio, but they do make good budget sound.

| Vmoda m-80s had a rather large price drop, save up a bit more and get those. They're absolutely amazing, especially if you amp down the line.

OP probably won't want to go for hi-imp and an amp, and it's honestly useless for listening to typical mp3 players.
I wouldn't go over 80-100 ohms, you won't notice a different in sound quality and it will just drain your battery exponentially faster.

without an amp yes, with an amp that has its own battery you're fine, people often just velcro their mp3 player with a portable amp & dac (FiiO e17) since its just as small
