Prometheus was worth an 8 in my opinion. The whole concept of how we came to exist was superb. Because in the end we came into existence the same way all the other scary aliens they produced did. That said, the whole crew dynamic was very unrealistic. In the face of a common enemy, however boring it may be, humans stick together. They don't go running off into an alien tunnel in a group of two instead of eight. Especially when the group consists of highly trained experts.

I understood the hatred the alien at the end felt towards humans, because to him we're nothing more than the rest of those murderous beings that killed his friends/family.

Music: Awesome
Visuals: Awesome
Acting: Shitty
Plot: Shitty
Overarching Story: Decent, but you have to watch the rest of the alien movies for it to even make sense, which I haven't for fucking years, so I was totally lost.
Overall it was just not enjoyable.

What I was getting at was that if The Avengers can be rated 8.4... then Prometheus would deserve a 9.
Prometheus was definitely better than The Avengers, in both plot and visuals. Though it's not a 'family film' which probably has a big affect on the rating.

And Emil, what would have made it better? What were you expecting? It did a fantastic job of presenting the origins of the Xenomorphs from the Alien films and just as good of a job at showing off the Prometheus ship. Which imo, was the entire goal of the movie.

Average movie. I had just watched three of the other four Alien movies and it didn't seem that exciting. The visuals were superb as was the score, the acting was not that bad either. The story was nothing original in terms of theological argument, and half of the movie was suspense more than anything else (cobra only get like five minutes screen time, and action only really occurs in the last ten or twenty minutes of film). I enjoyed the creatures, all of them were well designed, but I did not find it different from the other classic alien movies. It did not really add much to the lore or go far in way of an explanation. We are left merely knowing that The Engineers are hostile and that it's a bad idea to get impregnated by someone infested with space AIDs.

this is a good thing

also, how did it not explain things very good? The Xenomorphs are the result of a biological weapon that would be used on the humans, the weapon backfired and infected the Engineers, they didn't get to kill us. The woman got infected with weapon babby (she was impregnated by infected husbandoboyfriendguy), she took babby facehugger out, facehugger gets on an Engineer, Xenomorph is born.

Of course there are unanswered questions, that's part of the fun in these movies. Though most of my questions lie more in the subject of "what happened next?" and "why didn't the engineers send another fleet after the first failed?"

It did good in not betraying the Alien films, whilst keeping a modern style. That's what's most important to me, as I love the Alien films.

As I said, all we really learned is that the Engineers are hostile. It was never stated that the aliens infected the Engineers (on a massive scale), just that they attacked them on this occasion (through the hologram, squad isn't really a massive scale I suppose). It also reveals that aliens can be born from Engineers, but we already knew that it worked on humans as well (it doesn't add to the knowledge we have of their reproductive cycle). And the fact that this alien is different (more humanlike) is never clarified or built upon (that's fine of course). In the end, it leaves more questions than it answers (because it doesn't really answer that many). All in all, it blatantly seems to be as an introduction to a triliogy, something thats not bad, but that makes it seem like the movie really isn't worth all that considering we will have to rewatch it when/if the next one comes out anyways.

Of course, the SFX and spacecraft on spacecraft action makes it worth the ticket anyways.
