Cheat Engine

I know you may have heard this before..but I am lost...I have went thru the tutorial and have made it to the last step..I figure that I should at least be able to do some minor hacking at this time or modify something ..but I cant..when I try to find the value of something I type it in as in earlier steps but nothing shows up..or if it shows up and its among many values and I decrease or increase the value..it all disappears..and yes for the next scan I have left it as is (exact value, 4byte) or change it to increase or decrease value..I've even read online that some hackers select the browser itself on the process list and some have selected the game in the window list..I've tried both ways and still no luck..my firewall is off (never was on) and don't have and virus software. I don't know what else to do..The game that I'm trying to work is war commander..I know there is a way to use this engine on there cause its being used on me daily..please advise..

what browser are you using ?

if firefox then select plugin container
if chrome well:
right click the new tab button and select task manager
right click a blank space and select process id
convert to hex the number of plugin sockwave flash
ex: 4340 = 10F4
in cheat engine open process 000010F4-chrome.exe
