DO not go for an i3. I'd recommend a FX 41xx over an i3 every day. If you can manage get a Phenom II x4 955 or a 2500k. I do not play bias twards intel or AMD, but I do normally pick AMD. I have an FX 8150 myself but that was just to make people mad. Yea I spent 300 bucks to make people mad.

If you have a monitor its plenty. If you don't its not enough. I for one am using a 27" monitor and would never go smaller for gaming.

8150? As far as amd goes, pretty sure a 975BE is best for gaming.

Unless you're getting an i5 2500k or i7 extreme black edition there's no reason to get intel (until next series), an fx or phenom ii will do just fine.
Gamespeakingly, if you need a workstation that's different.

Almost definitely, yes. Price to performance is great. I have a 970BE OCd to 4.1ghz, and I have absolutely no problems. Handles games like a champ.
