the normal flare gun is only good because of the damage it can do, especially when the target is being airblasted, take away 50% of its damage and a medic is just going to heal the person and it wont do shit at all
the soldier has a lot of shit but the demoman has an equal amount of shit, most of it is just melee weapons |
You're forgetting one thing. People don't care enough to work as a team in pub matches. And I use the Flare gun to finish people off that escape. And it's especially good for picking off scouts. But if one shot doesn't finish them off, some knockback is always nice.

If they're already distanced enough to have to pull out my flare gun, then sure, might as well annoy them a little while they try to escape. And if it's a scout, with their very painful scatter gun coming towards me, then definitely.

If you honestly think that distance as a pyro is EVER a good thing, then this conversation is pointless and isn't going to go anywhere. That's dumb. I love when pyros push me away because the pyro's greatest tool is the airblast to switching to secondary weapon combo.
