there was the previous MLP that everyone hates and the new mlp:fim that is what bronies are all about.
if you don't like the second then it is a meh, ok you dont like it.If what you saw is the old one then I think the same it is horrible and gay as fuck.

only things that people commonly relate to get fan clubs. I you think carebears was pretty good then maybe it just wasn't good enough to get all the attention as mlp for example.
It doesnt have a fan club because there were not that many fans. MLP on the other hand haves a whole fandom. Which you can tell by just looking at how many hits a mlp based website haves. equestria daily which is like the principal website of the mlp fandom haves over 197 million hits
