Closest one would be 50 mins away. Maybe a once a week thing, but idk yet. Sessions are how long?
The cool thing about our instructor and being a freestyle karate, is that once we got the age old katas(we use the shotokan katas), rules, and movements learned, he began to teach us each with an individual style. For example, I have the fastest hands out of our school, and leg kicks that, honestly I would feel bad to use on someone in a real fight. I just don't have a good leg stretch or jump height for high kicks. He also knows that my size and disposition, I work better as a defensive fighter, so that's how he trained me. So while I can't throw kicks like the two 3rd degrees he's trained, I can elbow and hammerfist break through more boards, and can match hand speed as a 1st.
After we get our first degree, he basically says "Alright, you learned how to do all the flash and flair, now I'll teach you how to fight." That's why I love it.

Oh wow, attuned to your strengths. I get nothing for when I do the fighting right, and a 'Come on Stefan, I know you can do better than that!' when I get pinned or punched in the face.

Our older blackbelt class only has 5 students. I'm certain your classes are bigger. Being remote and in a small class makes things more personal. We get yelled at a good bit too if it makes you feel better...
...and a shinai to the shins if we tick him off...

Ahahaha, that does sound familiar. Only with usit's not a Shinai, but a low kick if we don't listen or do something wrong (like our fighting stance).

Yep, he gets us if our blocks aren't solid.

Good job taking up a martial arts. Definitely one of the best things I did (only two years but totally worth it).
